Prof. Dr. David Aptsiauri: BRI is featured by multilateral umbrella but based on bilateral agreements

Prof. Dr. David Aptsiauri, Senior Fellow of Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Institute, shared his recent research findings, 'ONE BELT-ONE ROAD' CHINESE INITIATIVE AS A NEW MODEL OF GLOBAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION , at a lecture at Institute of Regional and International Studies, UIBE on June 28, 2019.

 

Since the announcement of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) by China in 2013, the concept has gained recognition worldwide, with not only more than 150 countries signing the Memorandum of cooperation with Chinese Government, but also specific projects in logistics, financial area and cultural communications. It can be considered as a new and promising model of global economic cooperation. Professor also mentioned the challenges and risks pressing the initiative, including political and security risks, macro-economic and financial risks, human factor based on management enhancement, legal regulations gaps, cultural differences, and the ongoing tide of global disputes on trade relations.

 

Prof. Dr. David Aptsiauri is the visiting professor of Institute of Regional and International Studies, UIBE since 2017. He was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the People's Republic of China, Mongolia and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam during 2014-2018.
