ZEW President visits UIBE

Professor Achim Wambach, president of the ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim visited the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) on May 28. Ding Wenli, assistant to the UIBE President, met with Professor Wambach.

Ding said that the ZEW has been exerting its influence as high-level think tank in field of economic policy development. Ding also said the UIBE is looking forward to joint research with the ZEW in several disciplines including big data, digital economy, clean energy, etc.

 

Professor Wambach gave a detailed introduction on the research goals, organizational structure and key research fields of the ZEW. He also said that the ZEW attaches great importance on its cooperation and communication with China, and has already conducted in-depth cooperation with the UIBE on environmental and resource economics. He added he hoped that cooperation and communication in even more areas between the two sides would be possible in the future.

After the meeting, Professor Wambach delivered a lecture themed "Digitalization: A challenge to the social market economy." He elaborated on how digitalization would influence and challenge the market economy by analyzing the transformation of economic models, the challenges that the digital market poses on the current economic structure, big data and competition policy as well as the protection of consumers' rights in the digital era.
