UIBE delegates visit University of Leeds

From October 25 to November 1, UIBE delegates, led by its Vice-Principal Professor Zhao Zhongxiu, attended the Boarding Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds and visited many higher-education colleges in England and Ireland to discuss future cooperation. The accompanying staff include the Director of Business Chinese Base Professor Han Hong, the Director of Scientific Research Department Professor Wang Qiang, the Associate Dean of School of Insurance and Economics of UIBE Professor Sun Jie and the Director Assistant of Business Chinese Base Huo Yuan.

Visiting the Economic and Commercial Counsellors's Office of the Chinese Embassy in UK to assist the development of Confucius Institute

On October 26, the delegates visited the Economic and Commercial Councellor's Office of the Chinese Embassy in UK and met the Minister-Councellor Jin Xu. The Vice-Principal Zhao Zhongxiu subsequently reported the work of Confucius Institute at UIBE to the Minister-Councellor, who gave full recognition to the management and implementation. Apart from that, both parties also discussed expanding the Confucius Institute's cooperation with Chinese enterprises and UIBE's Alumni Association in UK.

On October 28, Jin Xu, the Minister-Councellor of Chinese Embassy in UK, was invited to give an annual lecture to teachers and students at the Confucius Institute. With nearly 200 British students present, he used vivid and humorous words to introduce the China's current development and answered questions in a patient and witty way, which was warmly applauded by the audience.

Holding Board Meeting of Confucius Institute and looking forward to its new scenario in 2016

On October 27, the delegates went to University of Leeds for the annual board meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds. The Principal of the University of Leeds Sir Alan Langlands, the Dean of Business School Peter Moiser, the First Foreign Dean of Confucius Institute Professor Peter Buckley, and Professor Mario Kafouros from Business School presented the meeting, in which the Confucius Institute's Foreign Dean Hinrich Voss and Chinese Dean Yan Hongwei summarized the work in the past year and suggested work for the next year. Both parties from China and Britain agreed that we should provide more assistance to the development of Confucius Institute to strengthen its function and expand its influence in schools and societies. By doing so, the Confucius Institute can better play its function as a bridge in exchanging the British-Chinese culture and in strengthening the friendship of the two countries.

Discussing cooperation between UIBE and the University of Leeds and expanding our cooperative areas

During the board meeting, the delegates discussed matters about starting the "3+1" program, exchange programs for doctoral students, summer school and developing new cooperation areas and majors with Peter Moiser, the Dean of Business School of the University of Leeds,Mellissa Schueller, the Supervisor of International Affairs Department at the Business School, and Hinrich Voss, the Foreign Dean of Confucius Institute. The delegates then inspected the key program of the year undertaken by the Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds, the Shakespeare-Tang Xianzu Festival, visited the Professor Li Ruru, the instructor of this program and audited the class on this program for British students.

Paying a return visit to Dublin City University and breaking new ground for UIBE's international development

The delegates visited Dublin City University on October 29 when in-depth discussions like the united training program for talents from both schools were carried out. The Vice-Principal of Dublin City University expressed his ardent hope of establishing friendly and cooperative relations with UIBE, signing cooperation agreement at right moment and conducting exchanges at school-level, such as student exchange, united training programs for doctors, cooperation in organizing summer school and establishing strategic partnership.

During this visit, we achieved an agreement with our British and Irish collaborators on the wide-ranging and multi-layered cooperation, which is conducted by exchanging teachers and students, and working together in scientific research and so on. Moreover, both parties exchanged views on how to innovate the mode of cooperation between schools and on how to achieve mutual benefit and win-win for common development. UIBE and its foreign partners will give full to their respective advantages to further expand the cooperation areas and to promote the economic and cultural exchanges between China and Britain.
