The School of Information at UIBE has received approval from the Ministry of Education to create a specialised program on big data and the science of data.

Big data and the science of data is a new field in China with only three universities with related programs: Peking University, Zhongnan University and UIBE. With the generous support of school leaders, the Dean's Office and other relevant departments, the School of Information succeeded in applying for the setup of this new specialty.

Its success can also be attributed to the Information Schools' preparation in the preliminary stage by demonstrating its the strengths of its teachers and disciplinary advantages in the domains of economics, management, systematic science, data analysis and mining while orienting itself to strategy of national development and the requirements of the big data era.

However, approval from the Ministry of Education is just the first step. The Information School is prepared to devote itself to setting up this new specialty by implementing a multi-disciplinary platform, optimizing its three-dimensional training plan and enhancing its communication with other universities, with a view to ensure its students' education and cultivate more qualified talents for the benefit of society.
