Nobel laureate awarded honorary professorship with UIBE

On March 20, 2017, Prof. Michael Spence, a recipient of the 2001 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and the honorary dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business, visited the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) and was awarded an honorary professorship.

President Wang Jiaqiong met the guests and extended his warm welcome. He appreciated Prof. Spence's contributions to the development of UIBE Global Value Chain Institute, where Prof. Spence served as president of its Academic Advisory Committee. Wang hoped that they can further their collaborations in various fields.

Prof. Spence gave thanks for the awarding of the title and spoke highly of UIBE's teaching and research in the field of economics as well in the training of international talents. He expressed his willingness to enhance communication and cooperation with UIBE in the field of economic research.

Prof. Spence then gave a speech entitled "Major Challenges to Global Economy." He elaborated on hot issues including economic reform and innovation, economic growth and employment, shift in economic growth pattern and challenges to the global economy. (By Pan Yan)
