The Beijing Opening-up Institute (BOI) of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) was included among the first high-end think tanks to be supported by the Beijing municipal government in December 2017.

With the benefit of the university's resources, the BOI was founded in 2016 in response to a call by central government to promote the establishment of think tanks with Chinese characteristics, and to meet the capital city's practical needs.

The institute will form high-level opening-up research teams conducting studies related to topics of strategic importance to Beijing—how to develop as an international center of exchange, how to open up the capital city in a new era, and how the city will engage with the Belt and Road Initiative.
