The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE)-affiliated Confucius Institute at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) held a donation ceremony to present the Kamuzu College of Nursing of UNIMA with donations for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic on July 3, 2020.

College principal Dr. Mercy Pindani, registrar Lloyd Kambwiri and You Yonghong, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the UNIMA attended the ceremony. You thanked the Kamuzu College of Nursing of UNIMA for its continuous support to the Confucius Institute and to Chinese efforts in epidemic fight at the beginning of this year.

Dr. Mercy Pindani accepted the donations on behalf of the Kamuzu College of Nursing of UNIMA. The UIBE extended a helping hand to the college in tiding over this difficult time, which fully shows the profound friendship between the two sides, said the Principal.

The Kamuzu College of Nursing of UNIMA will take a more pragmatic approach to support the development of the Confucius Institute programs in Malawi.

Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the world, with a per capita GDP of only $380. The country is facing many uncertainties in the fight against the epidemic due to its underdeveloped economy and poor medical conditions. At present, there are 1,498 confirmed cases in Malawi, and the number is still on the rise.
