UIBE News: The Third Advanced Forum of International Politics and Economy, hosted by School of International Relations, UIBE, was held on April 16, 2016. The Forum was also one of the activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of School of International Relations. Professor Qiu Yuanping, the Director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, delivered an opening speech as an honored guest.

Professor Qiu extended his warm congratulations to the School of International Relations on its 10th anniversary. She pointed out, China has been successful in leading international cooperation with the enhancement of its comprehensive strength. The “One Belt, One Road” strategy has made more progress and achievements than expected. The diplomatic practices in recent years demonstrated that China could play an increasingly significant role in international cooperation given that soft power is properly used and hard power fully invested.

Professor Lin Guijun, the Vice-President of UIBE, delivered an opening speech. He stated, China needs to handle the problem between “adventurism” and “conservatism” in leading international cooperation. The integrations in trade investment, finance and infrastructure connectivity in Asia provide large space for China to lead international cooperation.

Centered on “How China leads international cooperation”, many experts from famous universities and institutes in China had an in-depth discussion and communication. The first half of the Forum focused on “How China leads international cooperation: Theoretical framework ” and the second half examined “China’s role in international cooperation: leading or participating?”.

Dai Changzheng, the Dean of School of International Relations, concluded that the School of International Relations has been expanding its social influence over the past decade, with an increasingly close association with the government and academia. The Advanced Forum of International Politics and Economy has gathered domestic scholars with top research level to track the latest forefront issues in the research of international relations, and offers intelligence support for China’s diplomatic decisions and strategy formulation, promoting the research in relevant fields through profound discussion.
