UIBE School of Law team won the championships this month at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot – Beijing Pre-Moot and the 8th International Commercial Arbitration Moot – Shanghai respectively.

The Beijing moot, co-hosted by the Chinese Initiative on International Law, Beijing Arbitration Commission, the Youth Arbitration Forum of the International Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese Youth Arbitration Group, was held between March 3-4 in Beijing.

UIBE defeated teams from China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing Normal University, Peking University and Fudan University to be crowned champion of the event. UIBE student Wang Boyang earned the honor of “best debater” in the semifinals of the event.

The Moot Shanghai, held from March 5 -8, was co-hosted by East China University of Political Science and Law and Shanghai University of Political Science and Law as a warm-up moot acknowledged by the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Twenty-four teams from home and abroad competed in the competition.

The UIBE team set a record as the highest placed Chinese team in the event. They won the championship after defeating teams from National University of Singapore (championship of the 6th Moot Shanghai), Kobe University, Fudan University, Loyola University Chicago, and Duke University. UIBE students Feng Yi and Zhang Jingjia got a nomination as best debaters.

The UIBE team will take part in the Vis East in Hong Kong and Vis Moot in Vienna. (Li Yang)
