OHADA delegation visits UIBE

Dr. Dorothé Cossi Sossa, permanent secretary of L’Organisation pour L’Harmonisation en Afrique du Droit des Affaires (OHADA), led a delegation visited the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing on June 25, 2018.

 

UIBE president Wang Jiaqiong held talks with Dr. Sossa. Wang introducd his university’s international strengths and said the law major is an important part for UIBE to seek among world-class disciplines. The cooperation between UIBE’s law school and OHADA would be welcomed, he added.

 

Dr. Sossa said China has a growing influence in Africa and hoped deeper all-round exchanges and cooperation with UIBE. The cooperation will help Sino-African legal exchanges and understanding and is of great significance, he said.

 

The delegation also visited the university's law school to discuss details of cooperation. Dean Shi Jingxia of the law school said OHADA played an important role in boosting connections between Chinese and African commercial laws. Africa is one of the important destinations of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative due to the traditional friendship among China and African countries, she said.

 

Dr. Sossa echoed Shi’s points. He also gave pragmatic advices on how to promote OHADA legal rules under the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

OHADA was founded by French-speaking African countries in October 1993 in Mauritius. With 17 member states, the organization aims to simplify, harmonize and coordinate business laws between its member states so as to provide guarantee of business laws and improve the investment environment on a larger scale.
