The second High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development opened in Beijing on July 13. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, addressed the opening ceremony. The conference gathered representatives from over 110 countries and more than 30 international and regional organizations. Huang Baoyin, Party secretary of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), and Zhao Zhongxiu, President of UIBE, also attended the opening ceremony.
Hosted by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the conference focused on promoting sustainable development, continuous actions, and creating a better future together. Main events of the conference included the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony, and five parallel forums, the first of which was jointly held by the CIDCA Global Development Promotion Center, the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), and UIBE.
The first parallel forum centered on the theme of promoting the modernization of the Global South through new pathways and visions. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges and shared their experiences through keynote speeches, presentations of the latest achievements, and roundtable dialogues on the opportunities, challenges, and pathways for advancing the modernization of the Global South.
CIDCA Vice Chairman Zhao Fengtao emphasized in his speech that achieving modernization is a common aspiration for people worldwide and a shared pursuit of the Global South. He highlighted that the foundation of the Global South's modernization lies in sustainable development.
China stands ready to collaborate with all countries to uphold the banner of the Global South, implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and promote coordinated progress in population, resources, environment, and economic and social development, he said.
Huang Baoyin warmly welcomed the participants and noted that the GDI, proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, aligns closely with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He added that the initiative has received warm responses and active support from the international community for its focus on development and cooperation.
Huang emphasized UIBE's commitment to promoting practices such as building a knowledge and capacity development network for the modernization of the Global South, establishing an economic and trade database for the Global South, and providing scholarships and overseas training for international students.
Lin Jianhai, Executive Vice President of the International Finance Forum (IFF) and former Secretary of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), along with Zhao Zhongxiu, signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement between UIBE and IFF. The UIBE president also presented findings from the university's report on promoting the modernization of the Global South, which highlights opportunities, challenges, and pathways in areas such as trade and investment, participation in global value chains, green and low-carbon modernization, public development finance, and China's experience and insights.
Nearly 400 participants from over 50 countries, including government officials, foreign ambassadors in China, experts, think tank representatives, business leaders, and more than 30 international delegates, joined the forum.
