Prof. Wang eyes OBOR role in China's opening-up and geographic relations

Professor Wang Zhiming, Director of Research Institute of Globalization and China's Modernization, attended three seminars in recent days: the Forum for Chinese Culture Revival held by Peking University, the Third Forum on China's Borderland Studies held at Shaanxi Normal University and the 16th International Symposium on China Economic Cooperation System held in Hong Kong.

On November 12 and 13, the Forum for Chinese Culture Revival sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Taiwan Research Institute of Peking University and Peking University Cross-Strait Culture Exchange Association was hosted in Peking University. It invited cross-strait experts and scholars to discuss the inheritance and development of Chinese culture aiming to build a high-level platform for Chinese Culture Exchange. Nearly 300 scholars and other important leaders were present in the forum, such as the Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and the Chief of Democratic Progressive Yan Junqi, the former Minister of Culture Ministry Cai Wu, the Vice-Director of Taiwan Affairs under the State Council Long Mingbiao, the President of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, Wang Yifu, the President of General Association of Chinese Culture, Liu Zhaolong, the Party Secretary of Peking University, Zhu Shanlu.

On this Forum, Wang Zhiming submitted a thesis entitled "The Correlation of National Rejuvenation and the Promotion of Silk Road Spirit" and participated the discussion of the Forum topic—"The History and Reality of Chinese Culture" by offering his own perspectives about the spirit embodied in the One Belt and One Road. He believed while recognizing China's rise as the background, people should realize the importance of reconstructing Silk Road Spirit based on the richness and profundity of Chinese culture, of unity in protecting nationality and respecting diversity, of unity in adhering to subjectivity and giving prominence to inclusiveness, of carrying forward Silk Road Spirit and of building a community with common destiny. All these issues put forward on this Forum have drawn much attention from the participants and were discussed in detail.

On November 14 and 15, the Third Forum on China's Borderland Studies sponsored by Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies and Institute for Western Frontier Region of China under Shaanxi Normal University was held at Shaanxi Normal University. The Forum consisted of a keynote speech and other six topics for discussion: "OBOR and Borderland Studies", "The Concept, Theory and Problems about Borderlands", "Borderland Safety and External Activity", "Borderland Management in Han and Tang Dynasty", "Borderland Management in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty and "Ethnic Relation ad Ethnic Culture. "

Wang Zhiming delivered a keynote speech entitled "China's Opening-up and Geographic Geographical Relations Under the Background of OBOR". By analyzing the geographical and historical relation between "Two Overall Situations" and "OBOR", and overall layout of OBOR as China's opening strategy, Wang drew the conclusion that OBOR emerges as the development trend and realistic choice of China's overall opening pattern in the new period. Subsequently, Wang Zhiming presided over the discussion on the first topic "OBOR and Borderland Studies", in which Wang and other experts had an in-depth exchange of views about the opening-up route of borderland regions and the model, meaning and pattern of OBOR as an opening strategy.

On November 28, Wang Zhiming, at the invitation of Hong Kong Society of Asia & Pacific 21, attended the 16th International Symposium on China Economic Cooperation System, which was hosted by Hong Kong Society of Asia & Pacific 21, undertaken by Hong Kong Baptist University, Lam Institute for East-West Studies, and Chu Hai College of Higher Education and co-hosted by China Review News. Mr. Yang Sun Xi, who serves a former Chairman of NPC Standing Committee, the Permanent Honorary Chairman of Chinese Manufacturer's Association of Hong Kong and the CEO of Hong Kong Heungkong Group, presented at the Symposium and gave a speech. There were more than 30 scholars and businessmen from regions and countries like Mainland China, HK, Marco, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam who attended the Forum.

The 16th International Symposium on China Economic Cooperation System themes on "The Development Strategy of OBOR", whose topics include the general introduction about OBOR, "OBOR and Southeast Asia, the Past and Future of OBOR", the "Theory and Practical Exploration of OBOR", and the "Impact and Prospect of OBOR". Wang Zhiming read off the paper entitled "The Impact of OBOR on Overall Geographical Economic Pattern in the Era of China's Peaceful Rise" and discussed related issues with present participants in detail.
