On April 1, the fourth Session of Professional Skills Contest for Counsellors from Beijing Colleges was held at Beijing Normal University. Huang Gelin, a counsellor from the School of International Studies at UIBE won the first prize in this competition and became one of the candidates of the contest in Northern China.

The contest lasted for half a month and consisted of preliminaries and a final. There were 6 items in the competition, which include an expertise test, online writing, themed class meetings, a public speech, a case analysis, and simulated communication with students. It is the highest level platform to comprehensively exam college counsellors from theories to practices. 57 counsellors from Beijing colleges passed the preliminary test and 20 reached the final.

In the parts of expertise examination and online writing, Huang Gelin was at the top list; by focusing the theme of the class meeting on "Exploring the interest and values of life, Being the practitioner of the China Dream", she encouraged students to follow socialist core values and be industrious, virtuous and self-disciplined; as for the public speech, her theme was "The Responsibility of Cultivating Talents for the Country", which was highly praised by the audiences and judges. When it came to case analysis and simulated communication with students, Huang put forward a set of solutions, demonstrating her abilities as a qualified college counsellor. Given her outstanding performance in these six areas, Huang won first prize in the competition of college counsellors in the Beijing region.

Such a prize shows that counsellors from UIBE are not only qualified but can uplift the student community. It also embodies the values of the School of International Studies and the Department of Student Affairs at UIBE, which have attached great importance to and made strenuous efforts in the promotion of counselling services.
