UIBE professor attends EP's hearing on WTO
2018-04-28 08:00:00

Tu Xinquan, director of the China Institute for WTO Studies of the UIBE, attended a hearing, themed WTO: the way forward after Buenos Aires, organized by the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament in Brussels on April 24.

Invited as a representative of Chinese scholars regarding WTO issues, Tu pointed out in the hearing that the WTO is an international organization propelled by its members, and the current problems with the WTO are caused by its major members’ policy options.

He said the biggest challenge to the WTO now is the unilateralism and trade protectionism behaviors of the United States. As a long-term leader of the organization, the U.S. has greatly shaken the world’s confidence in the WTO in its latest move.

Tu urged WTO members to support and invest more resources into the dispute solution mechanism, make better use of the trade policy review mechanism and strengthen supervision over the transparency of the members’ trade policies. (Li Yang)
